Loss to climate estimator
Turn quantities of energy and water lost in a network into an indicative amount of greenhouse gas associated with them. You enter the quantities and the emission factors; the tool only does the arithmetic and shows how sensitive the result is to your factors.
1. Energy and water quantities (per year)
Technical plus non-technical, as you define it.
Real losses only if you want leakage related energy.
2. Your emission factors (assumptions)
Use a published factor for your grid and year, and record its source.
Pumping and treatment energy for your system.
Combustion factor, or a leakage factor if your gas lost is a leak. Keep the basis consistent.
Result
Reading the result
The figure is the greenhouse gas associated with producing or supplying the energy and water you entered. It is not an amount that can be saved: some losses are unavoidable, and recovering unbilled supply does not by itself reduce emissions. Use it to compare scenarios on the same basis, and follow your own reporting standard for any published figure.
This is an illustrative arithmetic aid. Quantities and emission factors are entered by you and are assumptions, not benchmarks. The result is not a verified, reportable or auditable emissions figure, not a claim about savings or reductions, and not advice. It does not detect or confirm loss, fraud or theft. Follow your own reporting standard and verify with a qualified person before publishing any figure.
